MonkeyBeans Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 24, 2026
MonkeyBeans does not collect, share, or sell any personal data. All content you create stays between your device and your own GitLab repository.
What MonkeyBeans Does
MonkeyBeans is an iOS app that lets you write and publish posts and links to a git-based static site blog hosted on GitLab. It communicates only with GitLab's API on your behalf, using credentials you provide.
Data Stored on Your Device
MonkeyBeans stores the following data locally on your device:
- GitLab Project Access Token (PAT) — stored in the iOS Keychain, the most secure storage available on iOS. Your token is never transmitted to anyone other than GitLab.
- App preferences — settings such as your target branch, content paths, and tag cache are stored in app storage on your device. This data never leaves your device.
- Drafts — posts and links you save as drafts are stored on your device. If you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, drafts are also stored in your private iCloud container and synced across your devices. Draft data is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy policy and is not accessible to the developer.
Data Transmitted
MonkeyBeans communicates only with:
- GitLab's API (gitlab.com) — to commit posts, fetch your repository's file tree, and retrieve branch information. All requests are made over HTTPS. The content transmitted is the blog content you choose to publish, sent to your own repository.
No data is transmitted to the developer or any third party.
Photo Library
If you attach images to a post, MonkeyBeans accesses your photo library to retrieve the selected image. Images are resized and uploaded directly to your GitLab repository. Photos are not stored by the developer or sent anywhere other than your own repository.
No Tracking or Analytics
MonkeyBeans contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising SDKs, or tracking of any kind. Your usage of the app is not monitored or recorded.
Children's Privacy
MonkeyBeans is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will be updated. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
